Pregnancy Weeks 36 and 37

35 weeks (I promised a picture of 35 weeks from my last post)

 36 Weeks

37 Weeks

How Far Along: 36-37 weeks {FULL TERM}!! Yay!!

Size of Baby:
Baby is the size of a swiss chard or a winter melon (approximately 6.5 pounds)

Gender:
A sweet baby girl! Madison Ashley!

Maternity Clothes: All maternity with several non-maternity pieces squeezed in there.

Workouts: My gym membership is frozen as of May 1; however, I am still getting in walks around the neighborhood with Bella and Evan in the evenings.

Weight Gain:
29 pounds.

Sleep: Same as the last few weeks. Fairly well,I really cannot complain. Occasionally, I will have nights lately where I do not sleep very well. I now regularly have to get up at 3:30 am on the dot to pee. How weird is that? Also, I definitely toss and turn a good bit more than I used to due to the large belly.

Cravings/Aversions: Still craving more salads and healthy options. Evan made chocolate chip cookies; not a good idea!

Movement: ALL the time.

Nursery:
Done!

Symptoms:
Still really do not have too much to complain about. I really hope this continues. In addition to having trouble reaching for items on the coffee table due to the huge belly, I now do not particularly look forward to picking things up off the floor, tying my shoes, etc...it is becoming difficult and uncomfortable.

What I Miss: The same as usual...Caesar salads, soft cheeses and red wine....probably the red wine the most.
Mood: Happy most of the time. Hospital bag is packed (more to come on this soon). We are continuing to freeze meals in preparation for Madison's arrival. I am definitely trying to make sure the house is in complete order as well.

Best Moment This Week:
Our 37 week doctor's appointment. Doctor told me that she estimates Madison is a little under 6 pounds at this point and thinks that she will be approximately 7 pounds by the time she is born. This is wonderful news, considering my mom keeps telling me that big babies run on her side of the family.

Looking Forward To:
Of course getting to meet our little one!! I hope May 21st comes quickly; we are so ready!!

Pregnancy Weeks 33-35

 33 Weeks

                                                                     34 Weeks

**I unfortunately do not have a picture for 35 weeks yet, but will include it with my next pregnancy post.

How Far Along: 33-35 weeks

Size of Baby:
Baby is the size of a honeydew melon (approximately 5.25 pounds)

I want to begin a squat regime asap and also some light arm weights. I really need to walk more. Must get motivated...

Weight Gain:
27 pounds.

Sleep: Fairly well,I really cannot complain. Occasionally I will have nights lately where I do not sleep very well. I definitely toss and turn a good bit more than I used to due to the large belly.

Cravings/Aversions: Still craving more salads and healthy options. Also really craving guacamole, but that has been ongoing throughout this pregnancy. Bagels with cream cheese (not so healthy).

Movement: ALL the time. Lately, Madison's movements have become quite intense...to the point where Evan took a video of what we believe to be her knee or leg protruding significantly from my belly moving from one side to another. Her movements are so strong they are sometimes uncomfortable!!

Nursery:
Done!

Symptoms:
Other than a quickly growing belly, I am starting to have some other less than desirable side effects, but nothing too cumbersome. Specifically, I am finally having some difficulty getting up from a sitting position, getting in and out of bed now takes a good bit more effort, and I definitely cannot reach for things on the coffee table while sitting on the couch without significant discomfort. Probably the most uncomfortable side effect that I am having is mild upper backaches in the afternoons/evenings. I am pretty sure that is not due to the big belly, but ahem...the girls that are ginormous! Please tell me this is temporary, because I am not a fan!  On the plus side, I can still "out walk" most people at work. I am known for being a really fast walker and I am happy to state that so far pregnancy has not slowed me down very much!  I am very thankful though for how easy this pregnancy has been (at least so far).

What I Miss: The same as usual...Caesar salads, soft cheeses and red wine....probably the red wine the most.
Mood: Happy most of the time. Hospital bag is basically packed (more to come on this soon), we have begun for the past several weeks to make meals to freeze for after Madison comes, and we are in the process of deep cleaning the house.

Best Moment This Week:
Picking out Madison's outfits for the hospital. I got so excited coordinating her hair bows, onsies, and dresses. It makes it so much more real that our little girl will be here in (hopefully) a Month!!

Looking Forward To:
Of course getting to meet our little one!! I hope May 21st comes quickly; we are so ready!!

A Difficult Subject

I apologize in advance for the depressing post, but I have wanted to share this for a long time now and for some reason now seems like the right time.

I want to first say, that I have been extremely fortunate with not having many hardships the first thirty or so years of my life. I am grateful for that. I have been blessed with so many wonderful people and events in my life and I am truly thankful. Generally, I try to keep my posts very upbeat, however, today I want to discuss something that has deeply affected me and honestly I don't think I will ever be the same: having a miscarriage.

In May 2014, on a Sunday morning, I will never forget how thrilled/excited/shocked I was to get that positive on a pregnancy test. I had gone off the pill only three weeks before and I really did not think I would get pregnant that quickly. We honestly were not even “trying” yet.  I could not contain my excitement and although we had several family members staying with us that weekend, I quickly put on some clothes and ran out to pull Evan aside and tell him the amazing news. I will never forget the tears of joy in his eyes when I told him that he was going to be a daddy. We cried, hugged, and kept our amazing little secret to ourselves the rest of the weekend. We then proceeded over the next two weeks to tell a select few individuals the joyous news: my parents, his parents, and several close friends.

On the day of our first doctor's appointment I woke up with some minor cramping. I wasn't terribly concerned until I went to the bathroom and noticed a few drops of blood. Now every pregnant woman knows that any amount of blood is a very scary thing. The bleeding picked up very slightly and I began to panic. Evan and I went to work although all I really wanted to do was sit at home and cry. I kept asking Evan if I should call our OBGYN immediately and that maybe they could do something.  He told me to call at work, but that honestly there was nothing they could do.  I felt so incredibly helpless.  At work, I researched everything I could find about bleeding during pregnancy and it didn't look very good.  I called the nurse at our OBGYN and she told me not to panic and that unless the bleeding was major, it was most likely nothing to worry about and that they would see us at our eight week appointment that afternoon.  I barely got through the day I was so upset and worried.  By the time we got to the doctor's appointment, the bleeding had picked up a good bit and I was starting to suspect the worst.  One of the technicians performed an ultrasound after what seemed like waiting for FOREVER. I kept looking hopefully at the technician's face for any clue as to what she was seeing on the screen, but I got nothing. After the ultrasound, we were taken into a room to wait for the doctor. The doctor came in after what seemed like an ETERNITY and immediately told us that they couldn't see anything on the ultrasound.  I immediately started sobbing.  Although all day I was mentally preparing myself for the worst, I never in a million years thought it would actually happen. I never thought I would miscarry.  It really is one of those things that although is very common, I think every woman thinks it won't happen to them.  I, at least, didn't think it would happen to me. The next twenty-four hours were a blur. I think Evan and I both were in shock.

After the initial shock and horror wore off came the questions....did I do something to cause this? Am I going to miscarry again? After the first week, came the feelings of anger and resentment.  Why did this happen to us? How are so many other people able to have children without miscarrying? Are we going to be able to have children naturally? The questions and sense of fear of the unknown wouldn't go away.  I would like to say that it got easier to live with what happened.  It did after two months or so...a very little bit.  Every time I found out another acquaintance was pregnant or saw moms with their children, it hurt.  I wanted to have a baby so badly and it was taken away from me. Not to say that I wasn't happy for others, but my pain made it very hard for me to be around others with children, especially babies.  For the most part; the pain really did not lessen until we found out we were pregnant again.  I told Evan the day I miscarried that the only way I would truly be able to move past the miscarriage would be to conceive again and have a healthy baby.  Thankfully, we cried tears of joy when we found out approximately three months after miscarrying that we were expecting again.  I felt so much better once I knew we were on the path to beginning again.  Although it took us only approximately three months after the miscarriage to conceive again, it seemed like an eternity.  It gave me a very small taste of what it would be like to have issues with infertility and it was AWFUL.  I can't even imagine dealing with not getting pregnant for a year or more.  I feel for all those women who have had issues with this.

I would never wish a miscarriage on my worst enemy; it was a pretty traumatic thing to go through; however I learned a great deal from the experience. It made me value life so much more than I did previously and made me so thankful now that I am now having a healthy pregnancy. I think I took it for granted that I would be able to conceive easily and with no issues.  I realize now that there are no guarantees in life.

So why disclose all of this? After I miscarried, I really appreciated reading other blog's where women described their feelings after miscarrying and in many cases ultimately having a healthy pregnancy.  It made me feel better and gave me hope that I would one day have a healthy baby. I want to do the same for others. I know that my experience probably pales in comparison to a lot of others, but for me it was probably one of the most difficult things I have ever had to deal with.

As many of you know, we are expecting our first child, a baby girl, in May. For the past 34 weeks, I have had a very easy and healthy pregnancy and I am so thankful for that.  For those of you who are currently dealing with the grief of a miscarriage, I want you to know that there is hope. There
is a very good chance that you will go on to have a healthy baby.  You may feel hopeless now, but know that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and that there is a very good chance that you will experience the joy that we are feeling with the impending birth of our first child. Miscarriage is one of those fluke things that is devastating and unexplainable.  Although it is definitely one of the most difficult things we have dealt with, it has definitely made us stronger and thankful for everything God has given us and especially thankful for our baby girl that will be here in six weeks or less.

Pregnancy Weeks 30-32

30 Weeks

31 Weeks

32 Weeks

How Far Along: 30-32 weeks

Size of Baby:
Baby is the size of a large jicama (approximately 3.75 pounds)!

Gender:
A sweet baby girl! Madison Ashley!

Maternity Clothes:Basically all maternity with several non-maternity pieces squeezed in there.

Workouts: Finally this past week I decided to throw in the towel on running until after Madison is born...which was a bit sad. I began running a bit with the hubby the other day and the amount of weight that I am carrying around my midsection was just a bit too uncomfortable. Plus, I don't know about anyone else, but lately when running, it feels like you constantly have to pee? I am assuming this is from the pressure of the baby on my bladder as I bounce up and down? Anyway, from here on out there will be a lot of brisk walks, weights, etc but no more running.

Weight Gain:
23 pounds.

Sleep: Fairly well,I really cannot complain. Except for my current insomnia (it is 5 am in the morning on a Sunday).

Cravings/Aversions: Not too much. Just craving more salads and healthy options actually.

Movement: ALL the time. Baby girl's movements used to be the most energetic at nights; however, recently, she is much more active during the day and seems to quiet down at night. Does this mean she is getting on my schedule just a bit? One can hope, but who knows!

Nursery:
Basically done. I need to stop by Pottery Barn Kids and grab a pillow insert; but other than a couple small things, done.

Symptoms:
Growing belly...

What I Miss: The same as usual...Caesar salads, soft cheeses and red wine....probably the red wine the most.
Mood: Still very emotional at times and nesting like crazy. So far we have re-organized the pantry and added additional shelving and I have re-worked several areas of our kitchen cabinets to make room for all of Madison's bottles and future baby items.

Best Moment This Week:
Our baby shower last weekend and putting the finishing touches on our nursery. I think we have done a lot, but I still feel like there is so much to do!

Looking Forward To:
Getting to meet our little one. I still have a little less than two months, but I am getting (just a bit) impatient!

Size of Baby:
Baby is the size of a cabbage (approximately 2.75 pounds)!

Gender:
A sweet baby girl! Madison Ashley!

Maternity Clothes: Lots of leggings and a lot of non-maternity larger shirts. Almost ALL of my dresses for work are maternity at this point.

Workouts: Slowing down a good bit. Not being as good about working out as I should. I have gotten in several runs and some walks with Bella and Evan. I am waiting to suspend my gym membership until around 35 weeks; however, as I am hoping to still get in some good workouts.

Weight Gain:
Holding steady at 20 pounds for the last several weeks.

Sleep: Fairly well,I really cannot complain.

Cravings/Aversions: Still Gardenburgers, Cadbury Eggs, Combos (real healthy, right?), Greek salads...

Movement: ALL the time.

Nursery:
Done except for some things we may possible receive from our baby showers. Pictures coming in the next day, I promise!

Symptoms:
Growing belly...

What I Miss: Caesar salads, soft cheeses and red wine....probably the red wine the most. Oh and Sam Adams Cold Snap. I am buying Cold Snap so that I can have it for after Madison is born!
Mood: Still very emotional at times, but very happy that little one is progressing so well and we only have 10 more long weeks before we (hopefully) meet her.

Best Moment This Week:
So far, my 30 week appointment when the doctor commented on my drama-free pregnancy. I am just so happy that our little one is healthy and so far everything is going very smoothly! Oh... and passing my glucose test on the first try. I was really nervous about that.

Looking Forward To:
Sooo many things to look forward to: my work baby shower tomorrow and our family Virginia baby shower this weekend, our Charlotte baby shower the following weekend, and our 3D ultrsound tomorrow evening. Can't wait to catch a glimpse of what our little one looks like!

Workouts: On average, 2-3 elliptical workouts and weights and several runs.

Weight Gain:
Ugh...17 pounds...

Sleep: Fairly well, except I find that I have been tossing and turning a lot more than I used to. And Madison just loves to move all over the place at night. Her kicks are getting so strong that they very much keep me awake at this point.

Cravings/Aversions: Still Gardenburgers, like one a day, rice crispy treats, Cadbury eggs...I am bad.

I am not sure if I should say looking forward too, but my glucose test is this Friday (wish me luck). I am very much looking forward to it being over because I am hoping I pass. I just have this awful fear that I won't. Also still our 3D ultrasound {at 30 weeks}...I cannot wait to get a good glimpse of what she looks like!

1st Trimester Essentials

I have been meaning to post my first trimester essentials for a long time now and am finally getting around to doing it. Some of the items on this list are a bit unconventional/random and some of these may offer more of a laugh than anything, but here you go...the things I could not do without my first trimester....enjoy...

1st Trimester Essentials

1) I'm So Pregnant (Adult) Womens Maternity T-Shirt
This shirt epitomizes how I felt during the entire first trimester. To be honest, I felt really bloated and fat the entire time....and I wasn't really showing yet, so people probably just thought I was fat...this shirt would have helped A LOT. The McDonalds and Taco Bell runs probably did not help (for the record, I am not someone who generally frequents these fine establishments but it's what the baby was craving...what's a girl to do)?

2) J Crew Tee
Some really comfortable loose fitting t-shirts. During the first trimester, I did not want anything constricting or emphasizing that slightly bloated mid-section.

3) Lululemon Activewear Pants
I actually discovered these fairly recently and you can wear them well into your second trimester. I have already invested in two pairs and plan to go back for more. They offer free alternations for us short ladies as well!

4) H&M MAMA Jeggings
Umm....dare I say these are the best and most reasonable maternity jeans? I love these! Now, you may not need them until the second trimester, but I say go ahead and order them early so you have them for that day when the jeans will just not button...it's a depressing day ladies...be prepared.

5) Snoogle Chic Total Body Pillow
In my opinion, most people will not need a pregnancy pillow until you are well into your second trimester, however, I occasionally began using mine at the very end of the first trimester. For leg and tummy support, these are pretty awesome.

6) La Croix Sparkling Water
These are great to add a little variety to the monotony of water. Plus, they helped ease that awful nausea (a bit) in the beginning.

7) Wheat Thins
I got so tired of snacking on solely saltines when I was nauseous, these are tasty while still being somewhat bland and easy on the stomach.

8) Jimmy John's
Is this a bit random? Yes, however I missed subs and most sandwiches so much during the first trimester, but I discovered that many sub places have vegetarian subs which obviously do not have lunch meat on them, so I am able to eat them. It helps me miss eating my beloved subs and sandwiches less while still refraining from eating lunch meat.

Pregnancy Weeks 23 and 24

I think from here on I am going to combine two weeks at a time for my pregnancy updates. I do not want to bore everyone with a week by week recap, because honestly not that much changes in a one week period.

23 weeks

24 Weeks

How Far Along: 23-24 weeks

Size of Baby:
Baby is the size of an ear of corn (approximately 1.25 pounds)!

Gender:
A sweet baby girl! Madison Ashley!

Maternity Clothes: Lots of leggings and still a lot of my regular larger shirts. Almost entirely in maternity dresses for work.

Workouts: On average, 3-4 elliptical workouts and weights and sometimes a walk.

Weight Gain:
I have not weighed myself recently, however I have another doctor's appointment tomorrow, so I will have an update on this soon. I was up a total of 12-13 pounds as of last week. I am sure this number has gone up since then...

Sleep: Really well still, except for the cold that I have been battling this week. I am usually in bed by 10:30 pm at the latest.

Cravings/Aversions: Still Gardenburgers, like one a day. I love those things!

Movement: Yes! Feeling baby girl every day all day, although a lot more movement at night. I still get a little nervous when I do not feel her moving within a couple hour period.

Nursery:
Lots of progress....dare I say its almost done and I can post some preliminary shots of the almost completed product? Hopefully in the next week or so!

Symptoms:
Growing belly...

What I Miss: Caesar salads, soft cheeses and red wine....probably the red wine the most. Oh and Sam Adams Cold Snap.
Mood: Still somewhat overly emotional at times. Somehow made it through American Sniper without crying...that was a miracle!

Best Moment This Week:
Still watching Madison's nursery starting to really come together and just feeling baby girl move all of the time. It is music to a mother's ears!

Looking Forward To:
Completing the nursery, our upcoming 3D ultrasound {at 30 weeks}, and my brother-in-law's wedding in a couple of weeks!!

Pregnancy Weeks 20-22

I am way behind in my weekly pregnancy updates, so I figured I would catch up by combining several weeks.

Week 20 (stolen from our babymoon as I forgot to take a picture during week 20)

Week 21

(had to snag a picture with Bella)

Week 22

How Far Along: 22 weeks

Size of Baby:
Baby is the size of an spaghetti squash (approximately 1 pound)!

Gender:
A sweet baby girl! Madison Ashley!

Maternity Clothes: Lots of leggings and still a lot of my regular larger shirts. Something happened right around week 21-22 and I am pretty much solely in maternity dresses now. I tried on a regular stretchy work dress on the Monday of week 22 and the dress was just way too short over my bump. Time to break out the maternity dresses...

Workouts: On average, 3-4 elliptical workouts and weights and sometimes a walk.

Weight Gain:
I weighed myself, sigh. I am up a total of 12-13 pounds. I fluctuate a pound or two so it is hard to answer this question precisely.

Sleep: Really well still. I am usually in bed by 10:30 pm at the latest.

Cravings/Aversions: Veggie burgers (I finally found my long lost favorites that grocery stores no longer carry, the classic Gardenburger). I stocked up on these! Oh and Publix has the best carrot cake. I made the mistake of trying a sample at the store recently. It is dangerously good.

Movement: Yes! Feeling baby girl every day all day, although a lot more movement at night. I still get a little nervous when I do not feel her moving within a couple hour period.

Nursery:
Lots of progress: several shelves have been put up, the curtains are complete, and we also ordered Madison's monogram for over her crib.  We also bought some additional clothing items during after Christmas sales. Picture frames are up with Madison's monogram, and we got the bedding {Pottery Barn Kids} from my mom in the mail yesterday. I can't wait to open it when she comes to visit next weekend! I will post soon about Madison's nursery inspiration.

Symptoms:
Growing belly...

What I Miss: Caesar salads, soft cheeses and red wine....probably the red wine the most. Oh and Sam Adams Cold Snap. I saw a gentleman walking out of Total Wine with a case of it the other day and pouted to Evan about how I can't have it this season.
Mood: A little moody this past week; not really sure why. I get really emotional whenever those SPCA commercials come on...I just can't handle them at all these days. I also teared up the other day when I randomly thought about Bella not being with us anymore...these hormones are no joke!!

Best Moment This Week:
Watching Madison's nursery starting to really come together. At this rate, I think her nursery will almost be complete in the next month!

Looking Forward To:
Completing the nursery and our upcoming 3D ultrasound {at 30 weeks}.

Not sure, I am dreading getting on the scale after Christmas.

More to come on that front.

Finding out the gender of our little one! I cannot believe that we find out in less than two days!

Baby is the size of a lemon
